Our first ever #IWD2020 event
Big up all women worldwide! This year's International Women's Day campaign theme is #EachforEqual. We were struck by how closely it aligns with SEASON zine’s own mission to counter the fact that modern football culture is male, pale, and sometimes stale by championing women and pushing for greater diversity and inclusivity in the game.
According to the official website: ‘We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.’
With that in mind, we decided to create a space to connect and network over a meal and then watch England vs Japan in the SheBelieves Cup together. It’s the Lionesses’, and defending champions, first competitive tournament since coming fourth at the 2019 World Cup.
It was a Super Sunday in every sense at Prince of Peckham on March 8. We kicked off by decorating the table with goodies for attendees - bespoke menus, Daye CBD tampon samples, a copy of SEASON issue 07, and England flags for the game ahead, with exclusive posters on the bar. Then we welcomed old and new friends and sat down for a delicious jerk roast with all the trimmings, soundtracked with a banging playlist by our Partnerships Director Sian. It was incredible to really connect and hear more about people’s goals and projects. Then we went downstairs to watch the big match, which didn’t quite live up to the hype but thankfully the Lionesses won after Ellen White came off the bench to score.
A huge thank you to everyone who came out, Daye for the samples and Digital Design Lead Dawn for the posters which everyone loved, White Men Can't Jerk for the food and Prince of Peckham for hosting us.
Here are some highlights!
