#SEASON07 launch party
6 December 2019
In case you missed it during the busy Christmas party season, we toasted the release of SEASON zine's seventh issue with a mince pie and a glass of prosecco last month. Instead of our usual jaunt in east London, we trekked south to fashion concept store 50m in Victoria.
SEASON 07 is all about sustainability. Sustainability is more than just a buzzword, it is something that impacts us all. Energy, food, clothing and plenty of other aspects of our daily lives are affected by it. Football is not unique. The future of the game also depends on sustainability whether it's financial or physical.
We cover a lot: upcycling football gear and cleaning up beaches with Florencia Galarza, a plantain pancakes recipe from Denai Moore and face-paint, Qatar with Goal Click, Nigeria’s grassroots scene and more. Never one to shy away from a challenge, we pushed the design to a new level by including an interactive QR code linked to main editorial video and DIY pullouts for fashion, food, and beauty (much to the delight of issue co-designer Callum Stephenson) for the first time.
But I digress. On the night, Georgina Hunt and Jordanna Andrews delivered an incredible upcycling workshop. The football-mad designers showed guests how to create scrunchies out of old football jerseys, even a football snood out of an AC Milan shirt from the mid-2000s. Reduce, reuse, recycle....but make it football.
The upcycled pieces that feature in SEASON07’s Covet Me were also exhibited in an in-store edit. It was a chance to see pieces by Sophie Hird, Adam Jones , A Store Like 94, Phlegm bags and a Georgina Hunt bucket hat that you’d been admiring from afar on Instagram grouped together in the flesh. Like Hird’s Bury FC fringed cowboy jacket that’s been doing the rounds in editorials and appeared at Bricks magazine’ space at London Fashion Week Men’s earlier this month. Not only is it a symbol of the current sustainability crisis in English football, given Bury's recent plight, but also a lasting legacy for a football town that lost its heart and soul.
RVBY, one of the stars of the issue, announced herself as a singer-to-watch by treating the audience to a chilled live performance of her hits that added to the perfect Friday night vibes. While Bwalya Newton DJ’ed and got people dancing with banger after banger. Everyone left smiling and clutching goodie bags (it wouldn’t be a SEASON launch without one). This time, our friends at Crep Protect provided the ultimate care kit so that all our guests could keep their kicks fresh and make them last longer.
Much love to the team at 50m, Haddon PR, Katerina Koumourou and Puma for supporting our event. Hope you enjoy issue 07!
